What is an Animal?
This term comes from the Latin phrase "having breath". Most animals are motile, but that is not a limitation to classifying life forms as animals. Animals are separated from plants because they have no cell walls, and they are Heterotrophic, meaning they obtain their food from other sources and digest them in an internal chamber. Although when many think of an Animal, they imagine a creature with a vertebrate or backbone. In reality, only 5% of Animals have vertebrates; the other 95% are known as invertebrates.
